If you find yourself off of Roswell Road in Marietta you can't help but notice the cabin like building a few blocks behind the big chicken. While it may look like it belongs in the North Georgia Mountains more than the Greater Atlanta Metropolitan Area, Williamson brothers BBQ has truly established itself as a Marietta favorite.
The story goes that the Williamson Brothers are Tennessee natives who learned the fine art of true Southern Barbeque from the long hours spent with father in Alabama. After a long sojourn through the southern states, they final permanently settled in Marietta in 1990 and opened Williamson Brothers.

Quick Review
- Atmosphere 3/5- Dark, but ample space. The smell will really have your mouth watering.
- Service 3/5- About average. My food got there fast, but I wish my drink had been filled more.
- Food 4/5- You can’t beat Williamson Brothers smoked meats.
- Price 3/5- Some entrees are more pricey than others, but you can definitely lunch under $10 here.
There’s no mistaking that Williamson Brothers is a true pit BBQ establishment. You can smell the smoke and meat before you even enter the door and offers one of the best barbeque meats in atlanta.Thankfully it’s not the smoke of cigars or cigarettes, but rather slowly cooked ham, chicken, and beef that greets you at the hostess stand. The space while poorly lit is amble. Even at during the jam packed lunch hour, they were able to seat me without a wait. I will confess though that parking felt like an epic battle to the death. As I followed the hostess through the restaurant, I actually walked pass the pit full of hams being smoked. It was the most beautiful sight my foodie eyes had ever seen. I literally almost tripped on my own drool.

Williamson Brothers does offer some great appetizers, however, I wouldn’t waste my time on them. They are just taking up space that even better bbq could be occupying. If you do find yourself wanting to linger for a lunch and in need of an appetizer try the smoked tuna dip. Your sure not to find it anywhere else. The Hickory Fries and Fried Dill Pickles are also winners.
In terms of the meat selection, Williamson Brothers has every little meat your carnivore heart could imagine. Smoked hams, chickens as quarters and halves, smoked salmon, and steaks are all available for $20. Each selection comes with two sides. They also offer ribs by the bone and slab that are slightly more expensive, but will still keep you full for under $25.

When you do stop by (and trust me you want to) make sure to ask the servers about any specials they may be running. I lucked up at lunch and got a sandwich, side, and drink for $8. I must say that I truly enjoyed my pulled beef sandwich. I prefer beef to pork, but so often bbq sandwiches are only chicken or pork. I also appreciated that my sandwich was not drenched in sauce that made my bread soggy. Instead, there was the perfect balance of meat, bread, and sauce.
Williamson brothers Story
The spice mix on the meat, an in house black pepper blend, is actually kept on the table for individual use and is quite tasty. There are bottles of the secret Williamson Brothers BBQ Sauce as well. If you like it as much as I did, you can buy it by the gallon to go. In addition to their legendary BBQ Sauce, Williamson Brothers sells a steak and hot sauce. They offer variations on the original BBQ sauces that include Carolina, Honey, Garlic, and Chipotle.
If you can’t enjoy your BBQ without a little sweetness on the side, be sure to sample on of the pies of the menu. The pies caught my eye as soon as I walked in the restaurant. The display case is filled with confections that are literally about 3 inches high. That’s a lot of pie. Can you really go wrong with flavors like key lime, strawberry, coconut, and pecan?
