Forbidden City is a little Chinese restaurant on Cobb Parkway in Kennesaw in the Goodwill shopping center near downtown Kennesaw. It isn’t very spacious inside, but it has a calming and pleasant aesthetic. While I was there, a friend and I were the only customers, so I may be a bit biased by saying the service was very fast and attentive.
Forbidden City Cobb Parkway General Tso's Chicken. We were immediately seated. Our drink orders were promptly taken and delicious, crispy wonton chips were brought to the table to munch on. Next, as I usually do at Chinese restaurants, I ordered the General Tso’s chicken, although they offer the common variety of Chinese dishes usually offered. It arrived after a short wait, and I must say, I was pleasantly surprised. I had never been to this place before, but had known it had been there for many years. The lack of customers made me a bit skeptical at first, but my suspicions were quickly denounced. The portion size was the most plentiful I’ve ever received at any Chinese dining establishment. That’s always a good start when hungry, so I became optimistic.

Forbidden City Cobb Chicken lo meinThe chicken was very tender, but also slightly crunchy on the surface. It was not only the perfect blend of tenderness and crunchiness, but it was also the perfect blend of sweetness and spiciness. There were also plenty of vegetables, adding to the variation, but not so many as to just fill up space and replace the chicken entrée. My friend ordered the chicken lo mein. I didn’t sample it, but she had nothing but good things to say about it. On top of that, the portion size was so large that it made for a second meal to go. If I had to rank all of the Chinese restaurants in Kennesaw (that I’ve tried thus far), I would rank Forbidden City at the top of the list.
Forbidden City Cobb Parkway Interiors. In fact, it was the best Chinese food I’ve ever eaten. If you’re in the downtown Kennesaw area and have a hankering for Chinese, I would highly recommend Forbidden City, and particularly the General Tso’s chicken. My compliments go to the chef and wait staff, and most importantly, for readers and eaters…enjoy!
