Buckhead is known
for its high-class living. Some of the
best
Italian restaurants in Atlanta are in this area. If you
haven't
been to a classic Italian restaurant, or experienced Buckhead dining,
might I suggest five upscale places for you to try?
Buckhead
Italian Market and Bakery
This isn't strictly a restaurant, but it's the best place to
go in Buckhead if you want a lunch or quick takeout. Paninis,
insalatas, and several platter options are availible to purchase.
Everything is made with imported ingredients to give you the most
authentic taste. The owners are very friendly, and quite willing to
explain the intricacies of
Italian
food to curious customers. Try the
Baked Ziti Bolognese and a Caprese Salad.
If you enjoy high class dining with an lean toward older
clientele and classic styling, then you can't go wrong with La Grotta.
This restaurant has been voted the best Italian restaurant in Atlanta
for 18 years in a row. Begin your journey with Portobello alla Griglia
con Caprino, grilled portabellas with goat cheese and pine nuts. Then
try Fettucini Putanesca con Salmone or Quaglie Arrosto Farcite con
Salsicce Italiane (Roasted quail with Italian sausage.) Reservations
are preferred and there is a dress code. It's definitely one of the
best restaurants in Buckhead, or even Atlanta.
There's been a bit of a battle for authentic Italian pizza
in the city. Most people name Antico as the winner of that, but a new
contender has emerged at this Buckhead restaurant. STG Trattoria uses
the same ingredients and ovens as Antico, but puts their own spin on
toppings. Italian pizza is very different from American pizza. The
crust is thin, with a bit of char, and the toppings are extremely
fresh. They have a lovely anchovy pizza made with anchovy, capers,
taggiasca olives, arugula, and taleggio for $19. They're also open for
lunch, and serve a few pasta dishes and appetizers.
This pasta restaurant has been a neighborhood favorite for
years. The outdoor patio is spacious and great for dining during
summer. One great thing is that they have portion control options on
their menu. You can get a small plate or a full dinner-sized portion of
all their meals, which is perfect for someone like me who can't finish
a huge plate of pasta. The Lasagna al Forno is made with bolognese
sauce, mozzarella, and nutmeg. The Chicken Toscana has rosemary,
kalamata olives, and goat cheese. In a location where there has been
much change since 1989, it's good to see that one restaurant in
Buckhead has served the test of time.
At our final stop on our tour of Italian restaurants in
Atlanta, we'll visit Davio's Northern Italian Steakhouse. This is
another high-class Buckhead locations focusing on hand-made pastas and
awesome veal chops. They also have a good variety of steaks and seafood
from their grill if you're not in the mood for pasta. The prices here
are pretty high for their signature dishes, but there's enough range in
the pricing to fit most steakhouse budgets.
