After the Great Buckhead Shutdown, all the major nightclubs
and party places took a little hop over to
Midtown. Midtown is
where the party action is, though Atlanta has a glut of nightclubs all
over the city. The turnover of a club can be pretty quick; the ones
that hang on are truly top notch. There's more to do in Midtown than
just dance and drink though. Sometimes you want a little food, a less
noisy environment, something old-school classy. Midtown can handle that
too. For a little taste of everything that Midtown has to offer for
night life, check out these places.
This is two nightclubs in one, linked by an outdoor deck.
Three levels throughout, five bars, and trendy decor mingle with
excellent house music. The DJs cover the whole range, from 80's to
house. The outdoor area also gives you a place to relax when you want
to get out of the loud atmosphere. They've been around for a long time
too, which is saying a lot in the ever-shifting party scene. Very mild
dress code; see the website for more details.
This hangout with a Big Easy theme has locations both in
Midtown and in L5P. Seasonally rotated menu and fun local bands
Thurs-Sat. Consistent with the theme, the atmosphere is very laid back.
They also serve brunch, so you can nurse that hangover the next day.
They even have a small delivery menu if you just can't get up at all
after your huge party.
What can I say? This has got to one of the busiest and
classiest nightclubs I've ever been. 1920's opera house converted into
2007 to a hot multi-level night club that can host over a thousand
people from Wednesday to Saturday. There's a fairly strict dress code,
so you'll want to review that beforehand. They also have extensive VIP
services. If you're sexy and you want to show it, this is a great place
to be seen.
Going from ultra-trendy to dive, Steamhouse Lounge has been
open for two decades on the corner of 11th and West Peachtree. This is
a great dive bar with a strong seafood/Jimmy Buffet style to their
atmosphere. Their signature drink is the Goombay Smash, and you'll
definitely want to try their Shrimp Tacos. Great place to let your
inner parrothead come out to play.
Another famous Crescent Ave nightclub that's been open since
2004 and has been rated very highly by all the major review sites.
Three bars and a hookah service await you as you mingle among the
laid-back music. They also like to host charity events, so if you're a
corporate planner you might want to check them out. VIP service is also
available. There was no dress code information on their website, so you
may want to overdress for your first visit.
For something completely different than the dance club,
Churchill Grounds serves up jazz music in an intimate setting. There's
not many jazz clubs in the city, so Churchhill Grounds serves it all
up, from jazz classics all the way fresh compositions. Prices are
reasonable too, and it's great to take out-of-towners here to show them
the smooth side of the ATL. Is there anything more relaxing?
