Memorial Day Drink and Dining Events in Atlanta
Memorial Day is fast approaching, and the entire city is gearing up for the celebrations of the unofficial start of Summer. What better way to start off Summer than with a good drink and a good meal? Here's a guide to some of the places you can celebrate this weekend.
Georgia Renaissance Festival:
Just south of Atlanta, the Georgia Renaissance Festival will be open from Friday to Monday for the holiday weekend. Journey back in time while you enjoy food (including the famous turkey legs!) and drink from a variety of vendors. Plenty of entertainment from the family-friendly to the risqué. Bring your walking shoes though; the site is huge! Tickets are half-off (around $10 for adults) the whole weekend, so this is the perfect time to visit.Brew at the Zoo:
Want to act like an animal? Zoo Atlanta's annual Brew at the Zoo is happening this Saturday from 5:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Tickets at the door are $48, but if you're a member and you order early you can get them for $38. They'll have unlimited sampling of a variety of beers and wines, and you'll get to enjoy them while viewing the zoo's 1,500 animals. Free rides on the train and carousel too! Just don't get drunk as a skunk!5th Annual Blues, Brews, and BBQ Festival:
On Sunday the 27th, you can slide down to Park Tavern and enjoy some amazing blues music, beer, and barbecue from 2 p.m. to 11 p.m. They'll have four different bands playing during the day, and it's all under a large air conditioned tent. The price of admission is $20.35th Annual Atlanta Jazz Festival:
Maybe you want something a little more upbeat than the Blues? Head down to Piedmont Park for the 35th Annual Atlanta Jazz Festival. There will be two stages with nine different bands from Saturday to Monday, and admission is free. Food and drink vendors will be on site as well, and plenty of other surrounding restaurants if you need to dip into some air conditioning.18th Annual Community Appreciation Festival in the Park at Howell Park:
Looking for a place with free food? Bring some canned goods and go to the Historic West End at 1003 Ralph David Abernathy Blvd from 1-6 PM. This community fair has rides, free food, carriage rides, and many local choirs performing on stage. Canned goods go to support Hosea Feed the Hungry and Homeless. These are the big events, but there are plenty of local restaurants who will be having their own special deals to celebrate the weekend. At the very least, take a look through Atlanta-restaurants.org and find something close you'd like to try and see how they're celebrating the holiday weekend.
